What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a long-lasting replacement for missing teeth. The implant itself is a small titanium screw which is embedded into your jaw bone to act as a root for a replacement tooth. A crown is fitted onto the implant to replenish the gap in your teeth, creating a natural and fully-functioning restoration.

Implants are a commonly used restorative technique and can be used with great success to replace a single missing tooth, multiple missing teeth or to hold dentures in place.

Planning for Implants

When you visit us for a dental implant consultation, we first assess your natural teeth and the quality of your jaw bone to ensure implants are a suitable option.

Your dentist will take impressions of your teeth as well as a number of photographs. We may also refer you for a CT scan so we can plan exactly where to place the implants. Our planning process is extremely thorough so that we can achieve the look you desire and ensure your dental implants last for as long as possible.

Who can Have Implants?

Dental implants are suitable for almost anyone, of any age.

If you choose to go ahead with an implant procedure, your White House Dental Studio practitioner will create a detailed treatment plan to ensure we meet your aesthetic and dental needs. We will also explain the treatment process in full so that you are fully prepared.

What’s the Procedure?

A small incision is made in the gum so that your dentist can place the implant. Once it is in place, we may be able to fit the crown straight away, so you can leave the practice with a fully restored smile almost immediately.

However, if the site needs additional time to heal, we will provide a temporary crown so that the gap is not visible. You will then return to White House Dental at a later date for the permanent crown to be fixed onto the implant.

The implant procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic so you will be awake throughout treatment. If, however you feel anxious about dental treatment in general, we can offer sedation therapy to help calm and relax you.

We work with an implantologist, who is highly experienced and well-practised in providing implant treatment. We adhere to guidance set out by the General Dental Council and the Faculty of General Dental Practice, ensuring you receive the highest quality of care.

How Successful are Implants?

Implants offer patients a lifelong solution for missing teeth. In fact, studies have shown that even after 10 years, implants have a 95% success rate. With advances in dental technology, this period of time is set to increase.

Once you’ve received implant treatment, we will show you how to care for your new dental restoration. We also encourage you to arrange regular visits to our hygienists so that they can assess the implant and ensure you have developed a thorough home care routine.

Single Tooth Implant

A single dental implant is the ideal solution if you have lost a tooth at the front or back of your mouth. Your dentist may also recommend a single implant if you have one natural tooth that needs to be extracted.

A single implant not only looks and feels natural, it blends in with your other teeth and lasts for a lifetime.

Multiple Dental Implants

If you have lost multiple teeth, dental implants can be used to fully restore your smile for a natural and subtle resolution.

Multiple implants can support a dental bridge or denture appliance. They are also suitable for patients who require a full mouth construction or would like a transformative smile makeover.

Loose Dentures?

If you wear lower dentures that sometimes feel loose or rub against your gums, implant retained dentures can resolve these problems and enhance your oral health.

Long term denture wearers often experience loosening of their appliance as the gums and jaw bone naturally weaken or shrink over time.

At White House Dental Studio, we can place dental implants into the lower jaw to create a supportive base for your denture, so you can easily clip the appliance in and out of place.

Immediate Teeth

If you require an extraction due to the failing health of a single tooth, it is possible to remove the tooth and replace it with an implant in just one visit. So, you’ll never have the worry others noticing the gap in your smile.

Occasionally, we may need to wait for the gum to heal so we will fit a temporary crown to restore the gap and invite you back to White House Dental Studio a few months later for the final stage of treatment.

Soft Tissue Recreation

Your gums can be reshaped or rebuilt for a pleasing cosmetic result. This process is often used when teeth have been missing for a long period and the gum has altered in appearance or structure.

Bone Regeneration

Your jaw bone supports your teeth, holding them in place. However, if you have lost teeth and these have not been replaced, your bone may weaken or shrink, making dental implant treatment more difficult.

At White House Dental Studio, we offer sophisticated procedures to regenerate your jaw bone and make implant treatment more viable. We will do all we can to ensure your dental implants last for as long as possible.
