Teeth straightening is carried out using a variety of different orthodontic treatments depending on the complexity and type of results required. It can be done to improve the appearance of teeth or t improve the long term health of teeth by properly distributing the biting pressure across all teeth.

Orthodontic treatment can be carried out on children once their permanent teeth have come through and adults of all ages. There are a number of different treatments available including Lingual braces, Six Month Smiles, Invisalign, Damon Braces, and Inman Aligners. Details of all these treatments can be found on their respective treatment pages.

All of the dentists who provide orthodontic treatment at White House Dental Studio have completed many hours of additional training so that they are able to offer the different treatments. Prior to any treatment starting the dentist will complete a full assessment to determine which is any orthodontic treatment is best for you. It may be necessary for some teeth to be removed prior to treatment but all this will be fully discussed with you and all the options detailed.

There are two main types of appliance available:

A removable appliance – this is where you will be able to take the appliance out to eat and brush your teeth. This is used with the Invisalign and Inman Aligners process

A fixed appliance – this is where brackets are attached directly to the teeth and a wire used to join the brackets together. This wire creates the tension necessary to move the teeth as with the lingual braces, Six Month Smiles and Damon Braces

The type of appliance required will depend on the nature and severity of the problem.

Each of the different treatments have a varying treatment time and the dentist will be able to advise you on the expected duration of your treatment prior at your consultation.

You will need to attend the surgery every 3-4 weeks for review appointments throughout treatment, to allow the appliance to be checked and so the dentist can continually monitor your progress.

Once treatment is finished you will need to wear retainers for a minimum for6 months to ensure that the teeth settle into their new position. If not worn teeth can quickly move back to their original position
